Placement Counsellors

Being on a placement is a vital part of counselling training. It allows trainee counsellors to apply their knowledge and develop their skills safely under supervision.

Joining LCGL Counselling and Training Services on placement can be a really rewarding and useful experience which offers an opportunity for counsellors to apply their theoretical knowledge and learning into a real experience of counselling.

What will be expected of me on placement?

To be working towards a Diploma in Counselling or a recognized counselling qualification which has a requirement of at least 50 hours of placement before a qualification is awarded.
To be working within a recognised theory base that can ethically and safely be supervised within the organisation.
To be able to attend training offered by the organisation in order to aid professional development and best practice.
To understand and work to BACP practice and principles
To demonstrate an ability to work as a team member and adopt the ethos of the organisation.
To be available to undertake up to four client sessions per week.
To possess a current driving licence and have use of a vehicle.

To be eager to further the aims and objectives of LCGL and uphold its professional working practices and reputation with the BACP.
To be willing to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
To have excellent organisational and self-management skills.
To be available to attend monthly in-house supervision.
To demonstrate a sound knowledge of confidentiality in the counselling relationship and boundary issues.
To work within the guidelines of the organisation.

LCGL Counselling and Training Services will provide to placements:

Monthly in-house Supervision - both group and individual.
Ongoing professional training.
Professional indemnity insurance.
An assessment around any allocated work.
The support of a large body of counsellors and that you will always be backed up by an efficient administrative team and systems.
The experience of working for an established, highly professional charity.
A range of clinical experience and regular personal reviews.
A safe working environment to counsel clients .
The opportunity to accrue counselling, supervision and training hours that will count towards course requirements as well as BACP accreditation.
